Greetings and Salutations!
Welcome to the new and improved happy food, a completely redesigned online space where I plan to continue the blog I initially launched in 2012. Having started off strong with posts that April, I slowly lost interest and motivation to keep things fresh and updated. My hope is that the reimagined happy food will help reignite my passion for blogging.
Before launching the first iteration of happy food several years ago, I had contemplated starting my very own blog but hesitated each time. I struggled with the same questions I assume all aspiring, first-time bloggers asked themselves: do I have something interesting worth sharing? Will anyone want to read what I have to say? While the answers to those questions tend to waffle between yes, no, and maybe, I've thoroughly enjoyed communicating my experiences regardless of happy food's readership.
Where did the inspiration to blog originally come from? As an avid home cook and aspiring traveler, I initially set out to blog about my experiences in the kitchen, restaurants, and on the road. The impetus for finally starting my food blog adventure came, in fact, after I successfully created one of my best homemade ice creams: Toffee Ice Cream. It was, as I called it, "The Ice Cream Blogs Are Made Of."
Over the course of the intervening years and a few changes, happy food remained constant in its focus on my personal experiences with food--sharing family recipes, experimenting with twists on classic favorites, trying my hand at creating new dishes, encountering amazing eats while traveling, and exploring the Whole30® program.
And, as I wrote in August of 2013, "...when I established the blog in April of 2012, I pondered and pondered and pondered but couldn’t come up with a fitting name. Then, while in the shower one morning, an idea popped into my head: 'I could name my blog Happy Food!' I’m not sure if one can get divine inspiration while showering, but I felt as though some higher power spoke directly to me that day. Plus, the more I thought about it, the better I liked the idea. After all, this blog focuses on the food related experiences and memories that make me happy. I knew almost immediately the name perfectly described the theme and content of my blog, and as soon as I committed myself to instituting the change, I found myself excited once again to write about and share my happy food adventures."
So, yes, this new version of happy food may look and feel different. It remains committed to the same food-related experiences and memories that conjure happiness for me on one level or another. It also allows me to showcase more of my food porn, er, photography. In fact, all of the featured images except one are ones I took. I hope the redesign and new pictures encourage you to poke around and see what changed and what did not.
In the end, the question I still have for you is: care to join, or rejoin, me on this journey? I would love it if you did!
